What is it?

Kohlrabi is a member of the Brassica family, which also includes cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, kale and collard greens (to name a few). The plant is native to the European region and there are two main varieties that exist - white and purple. However, both the white (actually light green color) and purple have the same colored (edible) flesh.

What does it taste like?

Kohlrabi has a similar taste and texture as a broccoli stem or cabbage. However, its flavor is more mild than broccoli and sweeter than cabbage. And the younger plants (like our delicious microgreens!) have an extremely pleasant taste with a rich flavor profile.

What do I do with it?

You can add your homegrown Kohlrabi microgreens to any salad or smoothie, or even use them as a stand alone garnish. Why should I eat or drink it?

If consumed fresh, kohlrabi is an excellent source of vitamin C - a water-soluble vitamin and powerful anti-oxidant. Vitamin C helps the human body maintain healthy connective tissue, teeth, and gums and its antioxidant properties help protect the body from diseases and cancers. The super "kool" green also contains a decent amount of B-complex vitamins (like niacin, vitamin B-6 and thiamin). And it has notable levels of minerals as well, such as copper, calcium, potassium and iron.
